That Resurrection Joy

Can you imagine what that first Easter Sunday would have felt like?

Perhaps Mary Magdalene didn’t quite know it at the time but there would have been a quiet buzz in the air as she walked towards the tomb, a new energy around her as if creation itself was bursting with a secret that humanity was yet to discover. And soon enough lo and behold she and then all the disciples discover this unimaginable good news – He is risen!

The Son of God, crucified for the sins of the world has defeated death and has risen – never to die again

Oh, that resurrection joy!

Jesus Who was laid in a tomb for our sake, Jesus Who bore what we could never bear, Jesus Who carried the entirety of our sin and brokenness and dealt with it once and for all, is now risen never to taste the sting of death ever again.

And this is our truth and our destiny.

We are the people of the resurrection.

So, to those parts of our hearts that are still stuck inside the tomb, to those parts of our lives where death still dominates, the corners of our soul where darkness still lingers and addiction holds fort, where the brokenness of our past and the anxiety of our minds and the pain of our body still steals our joy, there is such good news – The Lord is risen!

And He has come to pull us out of death and into life.

Breathe in that fresh Easter joy, breathe in that freedom He has released over us – step into light, step into freedom, step into resurrection

We are the resurrected ones – we are the people of joy
